JAZZ IS Spontaneous, Spiritual and Seductive and perhaps, explains why the French were the first to call Jazz ART. It's interchangeable; spoken as the Subject of many conversations, used to describe a moment in history and has led a movement. Critics have labeled Jazz radical and often referred to it's sound as angry. None-the less- Jazz is a style of music that has withstood the test of time. A musical genre that dates back over 100 years, stems from the syncopation of Ragtime and the intimacy of the Blues. Jazz emerged out of the Black experience and it's popularity gained a reputation as trendy, stylish and COOL. Nina Simone argue, however, that JAZZ is 'Black Classical Music' an inventive style of music that uses western instruments to create and express new ideas. These new ideas set the ground work for several other forms from this unique culture to flourish; Bop, Hard Bop Bebop, Fusion, Afro-Cuban, Latin and even 'smooth' Jazz for example, all evolved out of JAZZ and the artists credited for them have produced some of the most prolific albums and live Jazz recordings of all times. One such work is JOHN COLTRANE'S .......'A LOVE SUPREME'. A MASTERPIECE THAT REMAINS ONE OF JAZZ HISTORY'S GREATEST MOMENTS. IT IS THE 2ND GREATEST JAZZ ALBUM OF ALL TIME, AND HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS COLTRANE'S GREATEST WORK TO DATE...... I was introduced to 'A Love Supreme' by a Jazz vinyl collector. The moment our listening party concluded, I had to reexamine what JAZZ meant to me. It was indeed Coltrane's spiritual declaration and I felt every movement. This classic album consists of a Four part suite: Acknowledgment, Resolution , Pursuance and Psalm and while musicians continue to pay homage to this massive work, it will never be duplicated. Once you have reached the end of Coltrane's spiritual journey, you too will gain a deeper understanding of the embodiment of Coltrane......... 'A Love Supreme' is a studio recording and features McCoy Tyner on Piano, Jimmy Garrison on Bass, and drummer Elvin Jones. It was recorded in one session on December 9th 1964 and released in January of the following year. Coltrane's 'A Love Supreme' proves that Jazz is indeed off the cuff and free. ...REMEMBERING 'A LOVE SUPREME' five decades later.... .....Check out my blog Professoronpoint.BlogSpot.com
